BACKGROUND: Cryptococcal meningitis is a leading cause of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-related death in sub-Saharan Africa. Whether a treatment regimen that includes a single high dose of liposomal amphotericin B would be efficacious is not known. METHODS: In this phase 3 randomized, controlled, noninferiority trial conducted in five African countries, we assigned HIV-positive adults with cryptococcal meningitis in a 1:1 ratio to receive either a single high dose of liposomal amphotericin B (10 mg per kilogram of body weight) on day 1 plus 14 days of flucytosine (100 mg per kilogram per day) and fluconazole (1200 mg per day) or the current World Health Organization-recommended treatment, which includes amphotericin B deoxycholate (1 mg per kilogram per day) plus flucytosine (100 mg per kilogram per day) for 7 days, followed by fluconazole (1200 mg per day) for 7 days (control). The primary end point was death from any cause at 10 weeks; the trial was powered to show noninferiority at a 10-percentage-point margin. RESULTS: A total of 844 participants underwent randomization; 814 were included in the intention-to-treat population. At 10 weeks, deaths were reported in 101 participants (24.8%; 95% confidence interval [CI], 20.7 to 29.3) in the liposomal amphotericin B group and 117 (28.7%; 95% CI, 24.4 to 33.4) in the control group (difference, -3.9 percentage points); the upper boundary of the one-sided 95% confidence interval was 1.2 percentage points (within the noninferiority margin; P<0.001 for noninferiority). Fungal clearance from cerebrospinal fluid was -0.40 log10 colony-forming units (CFU) per milliliter per day in the liposomal amphotericin B group and -0.42 log10 CFU per milliliter per day in the control group. Fewer participants had grade 3 or 4 adverse events in the liposomal amphotericin B group than in the control group (50.0% vs. 62.3%). CONCLUSIONS: Single-dose liposomal amphotericin B combined with flucytosine and fluconazole was noninferior to the WHO-recommended treatment for HIV-associated cryptococcal meningitis and was associated with fewer adverse events. In this article, formulation studies for terbinafine hydrochloride nanoemulsions, prepared by high-energy ultrasonication technique, are described. Pseudo-ternary phase diagram was constructed in order to find out the optimal ratios of oil and surfactant/co-solvent mixture for nanoemulsion production. Clove and olive oils were selected as oil phase. Based on the droplet size evaluation, maximum nanoemulsion region were determined for formulation development. Further characterization included polydispersity index (PDI), zeta potential, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, morphology, pH, viscosity, refractive index, ex vivo skin permeation, skin irritation, and histopathological examination. Droplet sizes of optimized formulations were in colloidal range. PDI values below 0.35 indicated considerably homogeneous nanoemulsions. Zeta potential values were from 13.2 to 18.1 mV indicating good stability, which was also confirmed by dispersion stability studies. Ex vivo permeation studies revealed almost total skin permeation of terbinafine hydrochloride from the nanoemulsions (96-98%) in 6 hours whereas commercial product reached only 57% permeation at the same time. Maximum drug amounts were seen in epidermis and dermis layers. Skin irritation and histopathological examination demonstrated dermatologically safe formulations. In conclusion, olive oil and clove oil-based nanoemulsion systems have potential to serve as promising carriers for topical terbinafine hydrochloride delivery.

Luliconazole (LCZ) is a novel antifungal imidazole with broad-spectrum and high susceptibility of Aspergillus and Fusarium are the dominant species of fungal keratitis, may potentially be a new medical treatment option for ocular fungal infection. To evaluate LCZ distribution in ocular tissues after topical application for the development of ophthalmic delivery system, it is important to have a bioanalytical method for measuring the drug concentrations in different ocular tissues and aqueous humor (AH). A selective and sensitive ultrahigh performance liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) method was developed for the quantification of LCZ in rabbit ocular tissues, including conjunctiva, cornea, AH, iris, lens, vitreous humor (VH), retinal choroid and sclera, using lanoconazole as internal standard (IS). Chromatographic separation was achieved on a Xterra MS, C18 column (2.1 × 50 mm, 3.5 µm) using mobile phase with formic acid solution (0.2%, v/v): acetonitrile (50:50, v/v) at a flow rate of 0.2 ml/min, and the run time was 2.5 min. Detection was performed using the transitions 354.1 → 150.3 m/z for LCZ and 320.1 → 150.3 m/z for IS by positive ion electrospray ionization in multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) mode. Method validation was conducted in accordance with U.S. Food and Drug Administration's regulatory guidelines for bioanalytical method validation. The calibration curves were linear over the concentration range from 2.80 ng/ml to 2038 ng/ml for conjunctiva, cornea and sclera, 2.09 ng/ml to 1019 ng/ml for AH, 2.09 ng/ml to 509.5 ng/ml for iris, 2.09 ng/ml to 203.8 ng/ml for retinal choroid and VH, 2.04 ng/ml to 101.9 ng/ml for lens, with all the squared correlation coefficients (r2) more than 0.99. The accuracy of the method was within the acceptable limit of 89.34%∼112.78% at the lower limit of quantification and other concentrations, Inter-day and intra-day precision values, expressed in terms of RSD (%), in all tissues were within 15% at all concentrations. The mean recoveries of LCZ in rabbit ocular tissues was 84.85%∼100.52%. No interference was found due to matrix components. Luliconazole was stable during the stability studies, including autosampler stability, benchtop stability, freeze/thaw stability and long-term stability. The method was successfully applied to the ocular pharmacokinetic and tissues distribution studies of LCZ in rabbit after topical administration of LCZ ophthalmic drug delivery system.

A rapid, simple, and selective liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) method was validated for the determination of terbinafine concentrations in the plasma of healthy Chinese subjects. Terbinafine-d7 was used as the internal standard (IS), and the acetonitrile protein precipitation method was selected. The processed samples were chromatographically separated with a C18 column. The mobile phases were 0.1% formic acid (FA) in water (A), and methanol (B), respectively, and the gradient elution program was used with a flow rate of 0.8 mL/min. Quantification was achieved by positive electrospray ionization containing multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) transitions of m/z 292.5 â†’ 141.1 for terbinafine and m/z 299.5 â†’ 148.1 for IS. The calibration curve range was 2.00-1200 ng/mL; the intra- and inter-batch precision (coefficient of variation, %CV) was <8.2%, with the accuracy deviation (relative error, %RE) of -6.5% to 10.2%. The selectivity, sensitivity, extraction recovery, matrix effect, dilution reliability, carryover, and stability were within the acceptable range. This method was successfully applied to a bioequivalence study that orally administered 125 mg of terbinafine hydrochloride tablets in 84 healthy Chinese subjects.

Candida albicans is the fungus responsible for oral candidiasis, a prevalent disease. The development of antifungal-based delivery systems has always been a major challenge for researchers. This study was designed to develop a nanostructured lipid carrier (NLC) of sesame oil (SO) loaded with miconazole (MZ) that could overcome the solubility problems of MZ and enhance its antifungal activity against oral candidiasis. In the formulation of this study, SO was used as a component of a liquid lipid that showed an improved antifungal effect of MZ. An optimized MZ-loaded NLC of SO (MZ-SO NLC) was used, based on a central composite design-based experimental design; the particle size, dissolution efficiency, and inhibition zone against oral candidiasis were chosen as dependent variables. A software analysis provided an optimized MZ-SO NLC with a particle size of 92 nm, dissolution efficiency of 88%, and inhibition zone of 29 mm. Concurrently, the ex vivo permeation rate of the sheep buccal mucosa was shown to be significantly (p < .05) higher for MZ-SO NLC (1472 µg/cm2) as compared with a marketed MZ formulation (1215 µg/cm2) and an aqueous MZ suspension (470 µg/cm2). Additionally, an in vivo efficacy study in terms of the ulcer index against C. albicans found a superior result for the optimized MZ-SO NLC (0.5 ± 0.50) in a treated group of animals. Hence, it can be concluded that MZ, through an optimized NLC of SO, can treat candidiasis effectively by inhibiting the growth of C. albicans.

OBJECTIVES: For patients with hematological malignancy, triazole antifungal agents such as fluconazole (FLCZ), itraconazole (ITCZ), voriconazole (VRCZ), posaconazole (PSCZ) and isavuconazole (ISCZ) are often used for prophylaxis of deep mycosis. Since these azoles exhibit large pharmacokinetic variability, dose adjustment by therapeutic drug monitoring is recommended for some azoles. This study aimed to develop and validate a novel method for simultaneous determination of plasma concentrations of FLCZ, ITCZ, VRCZ, PSCZ, ISCZ and ITCZ-OH, an active metabolite of ITCZ, using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS). DESIGN & METHODS: A high-throughput solid-phase extraction method using 96-well MCX µElution Plate was selected as the pretreatment procedure. RESULTS: The calibration curves for FLCZ, ITCZ, ITCZ-OH, VRCZ, PSCZ and ISCZ showed good linearity (back-calculation of calibrators: relative error ≤ 15% [LLOQ: ≤ 20%]) over wide ranges of 100-100000, 20-20000, 40-40000, 20-20000, 5-5000 and 50-50000 ng/mL, respectively. The validation results of all six drugs fulfilled the criteria of the guidance for bioanalytical method validation of the US Food and Drug Administration for within-batch and batch-to-batch precision and accuracy. The extraction recovery rates were good at ≥ 74.9%, and almost no matrix effects were found for all the drugs. The trough (10 h post-dose in 1 patient on PSCZ) drug concentrations in patients with hematologic malignancy who received oral FLCZ, ITCZ, VRCZ or PSCZ were quantified using the method developed. The measurements for all samples were within the ranges of the calibration curves, demonstrating the feasibility of clinical application of the novel method. CONCLUSIONS: We have succeeded in developing a novel high-throughput method using UHPLC-MS/MS for simultaneous quantification of plasma concentrations of FLCZ, ITCZ, ITCZ-OH, VRCZ, PSCZ and ISCZ.

Abstract Poorly water-soluble drugs, such as the antifungal drug griseofulvin (GF), exhibit limited bioavailability, despite their high membrane permeability. Several technological approaches have been proposed to enhance the water solubility and bioavailability of GF, including micellar solubilization. Poloxamers are amphiphilic block copolymers that increase drug solubility by forming micelles and supra-micellar structures via molecular self-association. In this regard, the aim of this study was to evaluate the water solubility increment of GF by poloxamer 407 (P407) and its effect on the antifungal activity against three Trichophyton mentagrophytes and two T. rubrum isolates. The GF water solubility profile with P407 revealed a non-linear behavior, well-fitted by the sigmoid model of Morgan-Mercer-Flodin. The polymer promoted an 8-fold increase in GF water solubility. Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and 2D nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR Roesy) spectroscopy suggested a GF-P407 interaction, which occurs in the GF cyclohexene ring. These results were supported by an increase in the water solubility of the GF impurities with the same molecular structure. The MIC values recorded for GF ranged from 0.0028 to 0.0172 mM, except for T. Mentagrophytes TME34. Notably, the micellar solubilization of GF did not increase its antifungal activity, which could be related to the high binding constant between GF and P407.

La papilomatosis confluente y reticulada es una dermatosis infrecuente, benigna, de curso crónico y etiopatogenia desconocida. Actualmente, se acepta que se debe a un trastorno de la queratinización. Se caracteriza por máculas y pápulas hiperpigmentadas, que coalescen en el centro y adoptan un patrón reticular en la periferia. Se la puede confundir con otras patologías, como la pitiriasis versicolor y la acantosis nigricans. Con la administración de minociclina por vía oral suelen obtenerse excelentes resultados. Se comunica el caso de un paciente con diagnóstico de papilomatosis confluente y reticulada. Se describen sus características clínicas, criterios diagnósticos y trata-miento instaurado.


Confluent and reticulated papillomatosis is an infrequent, benign dermatosis of chronic course and unknown etiopathogenesis. Currently it is accepted that this dermatosis is due to a keratinization disorder. It is characterized by hyperpigmented macules and papules that coalesce in the center and adopt a reticular pattern in the periphery. It can be confused with other pathologies such as pityriasis versicolor and acanthosis nigricans. Oral minocycline usually shows excellent results. The present work reports a case of a patient with a diagnosis of confluent and retic-ulated papillomatosis, describing its clinical characteristics, diagnostic criteria and established treatment.

Cell-penetrating peptides (CPPs) are small peptide sequences used mainly as cellular delivery agents that are able to efficiently deliver cargo into cells. Some CPPs also demonstrate intrinsic anticancer properties. Previously, our group developed a new family of CPP2-thiazole conjugates that have been shown to effectively reduce the proliferation of different cancer cells. This work aimed to combine these CPP2-thiazole conjugates with paclitaxel (PTX) and 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) in PC-3 prostate and HT-29 colon cancer cells, respectively, to evaluate the cytotoxic effects of these combinations. We also combined these CPP2-thiazole conjugates with clotrimazole (CLZ), an antifungal agent that has been shown to decrease cancer cell proliferation. Cell viability was evaluated using MTT and SRB assays. Drug interaction was quantified using the Chou-Talalay method. We determined that CPP2 did not have significant activity in these cells and demonstrate that N-terminal modification of this peptide enhanced its anticancer activity in both cell lines. Our results also showed an uneven response between cell lines to the proposed combinations. PC-3 cells were more responsive to the combination of CPP2-thiazole conjugates with CLZ than PTX and were more sensitive to these combinations than HT-29 cells. In addition, the interaction of drugs resulted in more synergism in PC-3 cells. These results suggest that N-terminal modification of CPP2 results in the enhanced anticancer activity of the peptide and demonstrates the potential of CPPs as adjuvants in cancer therapy. These results also validate that CLZ has significant anticancer activity both alone and in combination and support the strategy of drug repurposing coupled to drug combination for prostate cancer therapy.

Limited data are available on antimicrobials exposure and microbiology evolution in pediatric acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients underwent antimicrobials prophylaxis. To assess the effectiveness of antimicrobials prophylaxis, antibiotic susceptibilities of bacteria, and exposure of antimicrobials during intensive chemotherapy for AML patients, 90 consecutive de novo AML patients aged 0-18 years between January 1, 1997 and March 31, 2018 were enrolled. Vancomycin, ciprofloxacin and voriconazole prophylaxis was administered from January 1, 2010. During the preprophylaxis period, January 1997 to December 2009, 62 patients experienced a total of 87 episodes of bloodstream infection (BSI) and 17 episodes of invasive fungal infection (IFI) among 502 courses of chemotherapy. In contrast, 16 episodes of BSI occurred and no IFIs were reported to occur in 28 patients who received 247 courses of chemotherapy in the prophylaxis period. Patients who received antimicrobial prophylaxis had a significant reduction of BSI, IFI, and febrile neutropenia in comparison with patients without prophylaxis. Exposure to amikacin, carbapenem, amphotericin B was reduced in the prophylaxis period. Imipenem susceptibility of Enterobacter cloacae as well as vancomycin susceptibility of Enterococcus species were reduced in the prophylaxis period. At the time of the last follow up, patients with prophylaxis had a better subsequent 5-year overall survival rate than those without prophylaxis. Prophylactic antimicrobials administration in children with AML who undergo chemotherapy can significantly reduce the rates of life-threatening infection, exposure to antimicrobials, and might result in a better outcome.

Spinal epidural abscess caused by Aspergillus spp is a debilitating form of invasive aspergillosis that can easily be misdiagnosed as spinal tuberculosis due to shared risk factors and clinical features. In this Grand Round, we describe a case of thoracic aspergillus spinal epidural abscess in a patient with underlying HIV infection. The initial diagnostic consideration was that of spinal tuberculosis. Consequently, despite positive microbiological cultures of Aspergillus fumigatus, antifungal therapy was delayed until histopathological evaluation of the affected tissue confirmed the presence of fungal hyphae. The patient showed an initial favourable response after surgical removal of the infected focus, but unfortunately never returned to premorbid functioning. This case highlights the importance of early diagnosis, urgent surgery, and prompt antifungal therapy for the management of aspergillus spinal epidural abscesses. Associated morbidity and mortality can be substantially increased if physicians fail to recognise this condition and do not institute appropriate and timely surgical and medical treatment.

Fungal infections of the paranasal cavity are among the most widely spread illnesses nowadays. The aim of the current study was to estimate the effectiveness of an in situ gel loaded with voriconazole‒clove oil nano-transferosomes (VRC-CO-NT) in enhancing the activity of voriconazole against Aspergillus flavus, which causes rhinosinusitis. The nephrotoxic side effects of voriconazole may be reduced through the incorporation of the clove oil, which has antioxidant activity that protects tissue. The Box‒Behnken design was applied to formulate the VRC-CO-NT. The particle size, entrapment efficiency, antifungal inhibition zone, and serum creatinine concentration were considered dependent variables, and the soybean lecithin, VRC, and CO concentrations were considered independent ones. The final optimized formulation was loaded into a deacetylated gellan gum base and evaluated for its gelation, rheological properties, drug release profile, permeation capabilities, and in vivo nephrotoxicity. The optimum formulation was determined to be composed of 50 mg/mL lecithin, 18 mg/mL VRC, and 75 mg/mL CO, with a minimum particle size of 102.96 nm, an entrapment efficiency of 71.70%, an inhibition zone of 21.76 mm, and a serum creatinine level of 0.119 mmol/L. The optimized loaded in situ gel released 82.5% VRC after 12 hours and resulted in a 5.4-fold increase in drug permeation. The in vivo results obtained using rabbits resulted in a nonsignificant differentiation among the renal function parameters compared with the negative control group. In conclusion, nasal in situ gel loaded with VRC-CO-NT is considered an efficient novel carrier with enhanced antifungal properties with no signs of nephrotoxicity.

OBJECTIVE: This systematic review aimed to determine the efficacy of ketoconazole in the treatment of metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC). MATERIALS AND METHODS: A literature search was performed on four databases of PubMed, Google Scholar, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, and Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). The initial search resulted in 602 articles, which were progressively eliminated based on duplication, irrelevancy, and unsuitable methodology. A total of seventeen articles were included in the final analysis, including four randomized controlled trials, nine retrospective cohorts, and four prospective cohorts, with a total population of 1,095 patients. A 200-400 mg, tid dose of ketoconazole was used in these studies along with corticoid replacement therapy with hydrocortisone, 20-30 mg in the morning and 10-20 mg in the evening, or prednisone, 5 mg, bid. RESULTS: Based on our findings, 8 out of 17 studies reported PSA decrease of >50% in approximately half of the population, with a more significant PSA response at 400 mg ketoconazole dosage, and the average progression-free survival (PFS) of 2.6-14.5 months, or time to progression of 3.2-6.7 months. CONCLUSION: Ketoconazole with corticosteroid could be an effective alternative for the treatment of mCRPC with a satisfactory PSA response and disease progression.

BACKGROUND: Shelters and similar facilities with a high concentration and fluctuation of animals often have problems with various infections, which are usually difficult to solve in such environments and are very expensive to treat. This study investigated the eradication of Microsporum canis, the widespread cause of zoonotic dermatophytosis in shelters, even in immunosuppressed feline leukaemia virus or feline immunodeficiency virus positive cats. RESULTS: Our study showed the increased effectiveness of an alternative topical therapy for affected animals using the mycoparasitic fungus Pythium oligandrum, which is gentler and cheaper than the standard systemic treatment with itraconazole, and which can also be easily used as a preventative treatment. A decrease in the number of M. canis colonies was observed in cats treated with a preparation containing P. oligandrum 2 weeks after the start of therapy (2 cats with P-1 score, 2 cats with P-2 score, 5 cats with P-3 score) compared with the beginning of the study (9 cats with P-3 score = massive infection). The alternative topical therapy with a preparation containing P. oligandrum was significantly more effective compared with the commonly used systemic treatment using itraconazole 5 mg/kg in a 6-week pulse. After 16 weeks of application of the alternative topical therapy, the clinical signs of dermatophytosis were eliminated throughout the whole shelter. CONCLUSION: The complete elimination of the clinical signs of dermatophytosis in all cats indicates that this therapy will be useful for the management and prevention of zoonotic dermatophytosis in animal shelters.

OBJECTIVES: The objective of the study was to assess the tolerability and effectiveness of micafungin prophylaxis during the neutropenic phase in patients undergoing allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). Methods We conducted a retrospective study of 73 consecutive adults receiving antifungal prophylaxis with micafungin bridged to voriconazole/itraconazole in our center from July 2013 to March 2018. Clinical and transplant-related demographics and data on fungal infection post-transplant were collected. Results Micafungin was effective in 71 (97.3%) leukopenic patients. The fungal-free survival was 91.8%, 80.6%, and 77.6% respectively at 30, 60, and 100 days after HSCT. All patients had no micafungin-related adverse events. Conclusions The utility of micafungin bridged to voriconazole/ itraconazole for antifungal prophylaxis after HSCT is beneficial.

Febrile neutropenia, a serious complication that can occur during the treatment of hematological malignancies, can sometimes be fatal owing to fungal infection. Prospective randomized trials indicated the utility of liposomal amphotericin B or caspofungin as an empirical antifungal therapy. Itraconazole, a broad-spectrum tri azole antifungal agent, is poorly absorbed in the intestines after oral absorption and makes it difficult to achieve a stable serum drug concentration. Therefore, an intravenous formulation might offer a potentially safer and more effective alternative. To compare the efficacy and safety of empirical antifungal therapy, patients will be randomly assigned to either the liposomal amphotericin B 3.0 mg/kg once daily group or the intravenous itraconazole 200 mg dose group with five stratification factors (disease risk, previous antifungal prophylaxis, age, sex, and institute). The primary endpoint will be overall favorable response, comprising five secondary endpoints: successful treatment of baseline infection by the end of the treatment; absence of breakthrough infection; no discontinuation of the antifungal treatment due to drug-related toxicity; fever resolution during neutropenia; and 7-day survival after termination of the antifungal treatment. The target sample size of 850 subjects is sufficient to prove the non inferiority of itraconazole compared with liposomal amphotericin B, with a non-inferiority margin of 10%, one sided significance level of 5%, and power of 90%.

RATIONALE: Fungal keratitis (FK) is a severe vision-threatening disease that can lead to corneal perforation or endophthalmitis despite proper treatment. It is important to diagnose the disease promptly due to its indolent nature and disproportionate disease symptoms. Trichosporon asahii is reported rarely as the causative organism of FK. We report a case of highly unusual bilateral T asahii keratitis following ptosis surgery. PATIENT CONCERNS: An 86-year-old female underwent bilateral levator resection surgery for ptosis. Postoperatively, the patient complained of gradually worsening bilateral ocular pain and a decrease in visual acuity associated with a chronic non-healing epithelial defect. DIAGNOSES: Both eyes of the patient were evaluated using best-corrected visual acuity, intraocular pressure, slit-lamp examination, fundus examination, and corneal culture. Multifocal deep stromal infiltrates were found in both corneas. Cultures from both corneal ulcers revealed growth of T asahii. Optical coherence tomographic examination showed bilateral macular edema. INTERVENTIONS: The patient was treated with revisional ptosis surgery, an antifungal agent for the corneal ulcer, and intravitreal injection of steroid for macular edema. OUTCOMES: Both eyes recovered well. Her best-corrected visual acuity improved from 20/200 to 20/40 in the right eye and from 20/100 to 20/40 in the left eye. LESSONS: FK can develop in the cornea when certain risk factors are present, including recent lid surgery, chronic keratitis, and steroid eye drop use. Identification and correction of risk factors can be beneficial in the treatment of FK.

In this paper, we present novel well-defined unimolecular micelles constructed a on poly(furfuryl glycidyl ether) core and highly hydrophilic poly(glyceryl glycerol ether) shell, PFGE-b-PGGE. The copolymer was synthesized via anionic ring-opening polymerization of furfuryl glycidyl ether and (1,2-isopropylidene glyceryl) glycidyl ether, respectively. MTT assay revealed that the copolymer is non-cytotoxic against human cervical cancer endothelial (HeLa) cells. The copolymer thanks to furan moieties in its core is capable of encapsulation of nifuratel, a hydrophobic nitrofuran derivative, which is a drug applied in the gynaecology therapies that shows a broad antimicroorganism spectrum. The study shows high loading capacity of the copolymer, i.e., 146 mg of nifuratel per 1 g of copolymer. The load unimolecular micelles were characterized using DLS and TEM microscopy and compared with the reference glyceryl glycerol ether homopolymer sample. The presence of numerous 1,2-diol moieties in the shell of PFGE-b-PGG macromolecules enabled the formation of reversible cross-links with 2-acrylamidephenylboronic acid-based polyacrylamide. The obtained hydrogels were both injectable and self-healable, which was confirmed with a rheological study.
